What Maintenance Is Required For Steel Buildings?

steel building company maintenance guidelines

There are many uses of metallic constructions: industrial buildings and structures, company headquarters, warehouses, platforms, industrial halls, multi-storey buildings, buildings with large openings (exhibition halls, sports halls etc.), high buildings (towers and pillars for telecommunications), metal structures and elements for installations and technological equipment, but also stairs, walkways, structures for wind power plants etc.

Metal constructions have many advantages, one of them being that the maintenance works are reduced compared to the traditional building, visit company website.

The frequency of maintenance operations depends on the local environment. For example, a steel building situated on a saltwater coastline or in a high humidity region must be checked for corrosion 2-3 times a year instead of annually. Also, this type of building has to be checked after any major weather phenomena, to identify vulnerabilities or damages and to ensure its integrity.

As for the general maintenance operations, these are only needed once a year and do not have a high degree of difficulty:

  • Trimming greenery around the building
  • Removing snow
  • Cleaning the walls and roof panels to remove dirt and grime
  • Inspecting power vents and cleaning the fan blades
  • Repairing scratches and ensuring that the metal substrate beneath is protected
  • Checking the fasteners

There are also some components of a metal building that need maintenance on an as-needed basis: lubricating the doors, inspecting them for damaged edges that may allow moisture into the building, cleaning out tracks of sliding doors etc.
