How Are Steel Buildings Insulated

Steel buildings consist of steel frames and steel panels that confer these constructions their durability and strength. Steel being a conductive material, the steel buildings that need controlled temperature and humidity inside, such as the steel structures used as offices, warehouses that store climate-sensitive items or residential buildings, need to be insulated to control heat flow and condensation. Here is what the insulation process involves:

  • The selection of the most suitable insulation – there are very many material options, such as loose fill, spray foam or fiberglass, the best solution being determined based on the typical climate in the area where the building to be insulated is located;
  • The installation of the insulating material – each type of insulation comes with a particular procedure. Loose fill insulation is blown into the building’s cavities; spray foam is sprayed onto the walls, the floors and the ceilings from special cans, then it is allowed some time to expand and to harden, while fiberglass usually comes in the form of thick blankets that are placed into frames;
  • The installation of a vapor barrier – some insulation materials are more sensitive to the accumulation of moisture than others, therefore they need a vapor barrier to be installed, too. For more on metal building insulation Colorado has to offer look to CanAm Steel Building Corporation.
